Night lenses changed my life | Finlay 12 and mom Lyn
In this conversation on nightlenses.com, we’re going to talk to Finlay and his mom, Lyn, about why it’s fantastic to begin using night lenses for nearsighted kids at an early age. It’s all about enjoying the freedom from glasses and managing myopia, folks! Let’s get into it and listen to what they have to share about this.
MOM: His eyesight took a big hit when he was 10, so I took him to the eye doctor. It was during our first visit when the doctor told us about night lenses. They explained how kids who wore night lenses had some amazing results in controlling myopia. Being nearsighted myself, I was very interested in preventing Finlay from ending up with a prescription like mine (-8).
Did you used to like wearing glasses, Finlay?
FINLAY: They did help me see better, but they were quite troublesome during sports like trampolining and biking. They would slip off whenever I jumped around too much!
How has it been putting in the lenses?
FINLAY: It took some practice, but now I can put them in on the first try. I just walk over to my desk, slide them in, go to bed, and drift off.
How much do you enjoy mountain biking? Could you imagine doing that with glasses?
FINLAY: It’s my favorite sport, for sure. But wearing goggles while going downhill with glasses on? Not a good combo. Now, with night lenses, I can see clearly without dealing with glasses!
MOM: When he wore glasses, they’d steam up, get muddy, or wet, and it was a hassle. You can’t just wipe off the mud with your mountain bike gloves because it’ll scratch them. Glasses were a headache, no doubt.
Does wearing night lenses make you feel like you don’t have any eyesight problems at all?
FINLAY: Absolutely! I forget about them since I only use them at night. I just feel normal, like I don’t need anything to see better.
Have night lenses helped with controlling myopia?
MOM: Definitely! Finlay has been using night lenses for 2 years now. At his first checkup, his eyesight had actually improved! And recently, at the second checkup, his eyesight remained stable. It’s amazing because his eyesight used to constantly worsen, but now there’s no further deterioration.
What advice would you give to other parents about night lenses?
MOM: I’d tell them it’s a game-changer! A great investment in your child’s eyesight. Life is much easier for Finlay now, especially with sports and hobbies. Plus, the long-term benefit is that there’s minimal further deterioration in his eyesight. Night lenses are so easy to use, and Finlay even gets one night off from them every week.
Did you have concerns that Finlay would struggle to put the lenses in and take them out?
MOM: Since I’ve worn lenses myself, I wasn’t too worried about him using them. It was strange to think of him sleeping with them in because I’ve always been told not to sleep with my daily lenses on! But once you’re reassured that night lenses are fine for overnight use, the main thing was teaching Finlay how to handle them. It wasn’t easy at first because it takes a while to get used to, but once you’re used to it: you put them in, wear them overnight, and wake up with perfect vision. I recommend them 100% to anybody!
So, Finlay, would you recommend night lenses?
FINLAY: Yes! They’re practical and they work really well.
If there were any kids your age who were worried about using night lenses, what would you say to them?
FINLAY: Once you get used to them, it’s a piece of cake!
MOM: It took a bit of effort for the first few weeks because Finlay has sensitive eyes. He’s not one of those people who can just pop them in and feel comfortable right away. But give him a few minutes, and he’s good to go as he realizes the benefits outweigh any hassle. He’s more than happy he stuck with it.
FINLAY: … and taking them out is easy too, really easy!
