Night lenses changed my life | Mary Anthony
Mary Anthony is a mom of teenage soccer players (you know, one of those sideline soccer moms who point and shout…????), a HIIT enthusiast (into Les Mills Grit Cardio, Body Combat, etc. for those who know what that means), and a night lens wearer. We hopped on Zoom to have a chat about how night lenses have transformed her life…
Q: Hi Mary, so how long have you been wearing night lenses for?
A: Gosh, it’s been around 4 years now! Time really flies…
Q: How did you get into them?
A: I used to wear glasses because I was nearsighted. However, I’m quite active with fitness, driving, and watching my boys play soccer, and glasses just weren’t cutting it. During my fitness routines, they would bounce around and sweat would make them slip down my face. After a long work session with them on, driving afterward was uncomfortable for my ears. And when it came to watching my boys play soccer, living in Scotland, you can imagine how often I had to take them off to wipe off rain. It was a hassle. When I weighed night lenses against day lenses, it was a clear choice – everything happens while I’m asleep, nothing to fuss about. It’s fantastic!

A: I’m really into High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Les Mills, and Grit Cardio. In Grit Cardio, you push yourself to the limit for 30 minutes with exercises like burpees, high knees, and running in place. My heart rate goes up to 198, so you can imagine that glasses would steam up and slip off my face due to sweat. A few years back, I used to do Sprint bike classes, but those involved looking at a big screen, so I needed my glasses. Nowadays, many fitness routines involve screens. Doing HIIT with glasses was a real challenge, and looking back, if I hadn’t switched to night lenses, I’d probably be doing less of it.
Q: So, night lenses have genuinely transformed your life?
A: Absolutely, it’s like night and day. They are fantastic, and I think everyone should consider them. I wake up in the morning with clear vision and don’t have to depend on anything else. No constant readjusting on my face, no squinting to focus, no worrying about setting down glasses at the gym and having them stepped on. As I mentioned with my HIIT workouts, which I’m really passionate about, these past few years have been more fulfilling because glasses no longer hold me back.
Q: Would you ever switch back to glasses?
A: Definitely not – no way! I put in my night lenses, forget about them, and my vision remains clear throughout the day. I can even spot my son on the soccer field! I can’t emphasize enough how much my life as a soccer mom in rainy Scotland has changed. Wind and rain used to make my life miserable with rain-splattered glasses that hindered my sight. Now I can stand there without any issues. I’m too accustomed to the routine now and can get on with my day.
Q: I think I can guess, but would you recommend them to others?
A: Absolutely, 100%. Once you start wearing them, you’ll wonder why you ever considered anything else.
[Editor: After all that HIIT talk, I feel pretty exhausted and quite out of shape! :)]
