Night lenses chat | Catherine, 46 β I wish I knew about them earlier
In our “I Wish I’d Discovered Night Lenses Earlier” segment, we had a Zoom chat with Catherine, who really wishes she had known about night lenses sooner! Catherine recently switched from glasses and contact lenses to night lenses. You can catch her interview online HERE (apologies for the low-quality video; there was a storm wreaking havoc with the Wi-Fi!) or read the interview below:
Q. Catherine, what difference have night lenses made in your life? Why do you love them?
Catherine: Oh my goodness, it’s all about the little things in everyday life. I used to wear glasses every single day for seeing things at a distance, and especially in the last year… I got so fed up coming in from shopping in the rain with my glasses on, a mask on, and both my face and glasses all fogged up. Then I’d try to wipe them to clear off the rain… the past few years with glasses have been a nightmare! I tried contact lenses β daily ones, monthly ones β but they just never seemed to work for me. Later on, I found out I have dry eyes. I tried different brands, but my eyes would turn red, and I’d have to remove them because they irritated my eyes. I couldn’t make it through a full day with them.
Q. So, are all those problems gone now?
Catherine: Yes, they’re completely gone! For me, popping these little lenses in at night β I just pop them in before bed, “pop” “pop,” that’s it, then I go to sleep. While you’re fast asleep, you’re not even aware of wearing anything. I wake up, take them out, and I’ve got perfect vision! I honestly can’t believe that I can see everything! My optometrist even says I have better than 20/20 vision. It’s amazing!
Q. In the past, when you woke up, you didn’t have your glasses on, so you’d have to find your glasses and lenses since you couldn’t see… but now when you wake up, you can look outside and see the birds…?
Catherine: Exactly! You know, the first night I put my lenses in, it was so exciting, almost like Christmas. I got up in the morning… I could see with the lenses in, but I didn’t want to look outside the window just yet. I took the lenses out, which only took a couple of minutes, then went to the window, like you do when you wake up in the morning. In the past, it would always have been a blur, or I’d have had to hunt for my glasses. But I just remember being amazed. I could see everything! All the birds, the garden, everything was crystal clear!
Q. It seems like you’re into fashion. You’re rocking that leopard print there. So, what’s the difference with your fashion now?
Catherine: I used to feel really down because I had to wear my glasses every single day. So, when I’d go out at night, my glasses didn’t go well with my outfit. Now, the fact that I can go out without glasses and without contact lenses irritating my eyes or making them red… that’s awesome. I can wear hats again! You don’t think about it, but some hats don’t look good with glasses on. So now, I can put on anything, and I don’t have to wonder, “Does this look good with my glasses?” or “Does this not look right with my glasses?” It’s an amazing feeling.
Q. We recently talked to someone who said, “I can wear whatever sunglasses I like!”
Catherine: That’s another thing β I’ve got plenty of funky sunglasses β they’re not expensive, just cool shades with no prescription, and I can wear them now, whether I’m driving in the car or enjoying the sun.

Catherine: Gardening is a big deal. When you wear glasses and bend down a lot in the garden, your glasses inevitably slide down your face. I’d have mud on my hands, so I’d have to use my elbow to push them back up, and they’d get in the way. Eventually, I’d take my glasses off, but then I couldn’t see things in the distance, so I’d have to put them back on. So, just being free and not having to touch your face is amazing.
Q. So, night lenses have genuinely changed your life. However, the biggest problem is people don’t believe these things are real, and they’ve never heard of them, which is why we do these awareness campaigns with real people who wear them β what would you say to the previous ‘you’ from two years ago or to other people who are watching this and thinking “Really… is this real?”. Are night lenses real?
Catherine: They’re like magic! They are literally like magic. I tell all my friends and family about them. You just pop them in before bed β it’s so easy. Once they’re in, you don’t even notice them because you’re fast asleep anyway, so you don’t think about having anything in your eyes. And as soon as you wake up, you take them out… and your vision is completely corrected… and it’s amazing… it’s like magic!
Q. To ask the obvious β would you recommend night lenses?
Catherine: As you said in the title β “I wish I knew about these years ago!” I’ve been wearing glasses since my 20s, and if I’d known about this back then, I wouldn’t have had all the daily hassles that come with wearing glasses or dealing with irritated eyes from daily contact lenses… it’s just mind-blowing!
Thank you Catherine!
