Back to school | ditch the specs?

If your child is a sports enthusiast but is hindered by wearing glasses, there could be an alternative solution – night lenses! These lenses offer perfect daytime vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses. It’s the latest innovation everyone is talking about. Imagine a world where your child can fully enjoy sports without the inconvenience of sports glasses, allowing them to see other players and the ball clearly. They won’t have to worry about mud on their glasses, broken specs, or even being able to open their eyes underwater while having clear vision without prescription goggles.

So, just to clarify, no more glasses or daytime lenses?

That’s right! The science behind night lenses involves a process called Orthokeratology, sometimes referred to as Ortho-K lenses in medical terms. In simple terms, you insert the lens at night before bedtime and go to sleep. While you sleep, the outer layer of cells on your eye sheds and new cells grow. The night lens acts as a mold, and the cells grow into it, gently reshaping your eye to provide perfect vision. When you wake up, you remove the lens, and you’re ready to go about your day with normal and natural vision, without the need for glasses or daytime lenses. You repeat this process every night, just like brushing your teeth or following a daily lens routine.

Yes, it’s safe. No, it’s not permanent (the effect lasts about 48 hours before your eye resets). No, it’s not a new and unproven technology – it has actually been around for 20 years, but recent advancements have made it even better. You might not know anyone personally who uses them, so below, you can read about other young individuals (ages 5-18) whose lives have been transformed by night lenses, including my son Benjamin (the surfer). Yes, I’m a real person writing this, not a marketing bot. 😊

P.S. They’re also eco-friendly: Two small lenses per year compared to potentially a pair of broken glasses or 730 daily lenses ending up in the sewer (not great for the environment).

Sounds good: show me some teenagers whose lives have been changed by them:

If you have 30 seconds, hit play below. Watch Jess seeing for the first time with nothing in her eyes when she takes her lenses out for the first time. It’s very cool – and shows you that yes, they work:

Seriously though, how do they work?

IMPORTANT PARENT NOTE: Night lenses can also help to control Myopia (short sight)

I was gutted when I found out my kid had ‘short sight’ (what the opto called it). We didn’t think much of it and just got him some specs. But turns out, short sight is really called myopia, and it’s linked to future eye troubles. Good news is, you can control it. My boy, now 16, is doing well. Without night lenses (and no specs or day lenses), he wouldn’t have seen the eye chart from a mile away, let alone the top line! Now, he can read a couple of lines down. If we’d started him on night lenses 5 years earlier, he’d be cruising at around -2.00D, just above the legal driving limit. My tip for fellow parents? Start early.
