Night lenses changed my life | Finlay 12 and mom Lyn

In this chat over at nightlenses.com, we’re gonna have a chat with Finlay and his mom, Lyn, about why it’s so awesome to get myopic kids started early with night lenses. It’s all about gaining that sweet freedom from glasses and keeping myopia in check, y’all! Let’s dive in and hear what they gotta say about it!

How did Finlay get into night lenses?
His eyesight really took a hit when he was 10, so I took him to the eye doctor. It was during our first visit when the doc told us about night lenses. They explained how kids fitted with night lenses had some awesome results in controlling myopia. Being nearsighted myself, I was super keen on preventing Finlay from ending up with a prescription similar to mine (-8).

Did you use to like wearing glasses Finlay?
FINLAY: They did improve my vision, but they were a real hassle during sports like trampolining and biking. They’d slip off whenever I jumped around too much!

How have you got on with putting in the lenses?
FINLAY: It took some getting used to, but now I can pop them in on the first try. I just walk over to my desk, slide them in, go to my bed, and doze off.

How much do you enjoy mountain biking, could you imagine having to do that with glasses?
FINLAY: It’s my favorite sport, for sure. But wearing goggles while going downhill with glasses on? Not a good combo. Now, with night lenses, I can see clearly without dealing with glasses!
MOM: When he wore glasses, they’d steam up, get muddy, or wet, and it was a pain. You can’t just wipe off the mud with your mountain bike gloves ’cause it’ll scratch ’em. Glasses were a hassle, no doubt.

Does wearing night lenses make you feel as if you don’t have any eyesight problems at all?
FINLAY: Totally! I forget about ’em since I only use ’em at night. I just feel normal, like I don’t need anything to see better.

Have night lenses helped with myopia control?
MOM: Absolutely! Finlay’s been wearing night lenses for 2 years now. At his first checkup, his eyesight had actually improved! And recently, at the second checkup, his eyesight remained stable. It’s amazing ’cause his eyesight used to constantly get worse, but now there’s no current deterioration.

What advice would you give to other parents about night lenses?
MOM: I’d tell ’em it’s a total gamechanger! A great investment in your child’s eyesight. Life’s much easier for Finlay now, especially with sports and hobbies. Plus, the long-term benefit is that there’s minimal further deterioration in his eyesight. Night lenses are so easy to use, and Finlay even gets one night off ’em every week.

Did you have concerns that Finlay would be able to get the lenses in and out?
MOM: ‘Cause I’ve worn lenses myself, I wasn’t too concerned about him using ’em. It was weird to think of him sleeping with ’em in ’cause I’ve always been told not to sleep with my day lenses on! But once you’re reassured that night lenses are fine for overnight use, the main thing was teaching Finlay how to handle ’em. It wasn’t easy at first ’cause it takes a while to get used to, but once you’re used to it: you put ’em in, wear ’em overnight, and wake up with perfect vision. I recommend ’em 100% to anybody!

So Finlay, would you recommend night lenses?
FINLAY: Yeah! They’re practical and they work like a charm.

If there were any children your age thinking they would struggle with night lenses, what would you say to them?
FINLAY: Once you get used to ’em, it’s a piece of cake!
MOM: It took a bit of effort for the first few weeks ’cause Finlay has sensitive eyes. He ain’t one of those people who can just pop ’em in and feel comfortable right away. But give him a few minutes, and he’s good to go as he realizes the benefits outweigh any hassle. He’s more than happy he stuck with it.
FINLAY: … and they’re easy to take out, real easy!
