Night lenses chat | Catherine, 46 – I wish I knew about them earlier

In our special feature called “Wish I’d known about night lenses sooner!” we had a virtual chat with Catherine, who’s been wishing she knew about night lenses years ago! Catherine recently made the switch from glasses and contacts to night lenses. You can catch her interview online HERE (sorry about the video quality, there was a wild storm outside causing wifi issues!), or you can read the interview below:

Q: So, Catherine, how have night lenses changed your life? What’s your experience been like?

Oh my goodness, it’s those everyday little things. I used to wear glasses every single day, especially in the past year for seeing at a distance… I’m so fed up with coming back from rainy shopping trips with glasses on, mask on, and my glasses and face all fogged up. The last few years have been a glasses nightmare! I tried contact lenses – dailies, monthlies – they just never seemed to suit me. I later found out I have dry eyes. I tested different brands, but they made my eyes red, and after a while, I had to remove them because they irritated my eyes. I couldn’t wear them all day.

Q: So, all those issues are history now?

Absolutely, they’re completely gone! For me, popping in these little lenses at night is a breeze. I just pop ’em in before I hit the sack, easy as pie. While I’m sound asleep, I don’t even notice they’re there. When I wake up, I take ’em out, and my vision is spot on! I can’t believe how clear everything is! My eye doctor even says I’ve got better than 20/20 vision. It’s incredible!

Q: Back in the old days, you’d wake up and have to grope around for your glasses and lenses to see. But now, you wake up, look outside, and spot the birds…?

Exactly! You know, the first night I popped in the lenses, it felt so exciting, like Christmas. When I got up in the morning, I could see with the lenses in, but I didn’t peek out the window just yet. I removed the lenses, which only took a couple of minutes, then went to the window – ’cause that’s the thing you do in the morning – before, it would’ve been a blur, or I’d have needed to hunt down my glasses – and I was just blown away. I could see everything! The birds, the garden, it was all crystal clear!

Q: I can tell you’re quite the fashionista, rocking that leopard print – so how’s your fashion game changed now?

I used to feel down because I had to sport my glasses every single day. So, when I went out in the evening, my glasses didn’t match my outfit. Now, I can step out without glasses, and I don’t have contact lenses that bug my eyes or make them red… that’s fantastic. I can wear hats again! You might not think about it, but many hats clash with glasses – so now, I can just put anything on, and I don’t have to stress if it goes with my glasses or not. It’s such an incredible feeling.

Q: We were chatting with someone recently who said, “I can wear any sunglasses I want!”

That’s another fantastic thing – I’ve got loads of cool-looking shades. They’re not prescription, and now I can put ’em on – in the car when I’m driving or anytime we’ve got tons of sunshine.

Q: I hear you’re a gardening enthusiast. Do night lenses come in handy there?

Gardening is a big deal for me! When you have glasses on, you’re always bending down, and inevitably, they start slipping down your face… then I’ve got mud on my hands, so I have to nudge them up with my elbow, they become a nuisance, and eventually, I take them off… but then, I can’t see anything in the distance… so I have to put them back on! So, the freedom of not having to touch your face is absolutely fantastic.

Q: It sounds like night lenses have genuinely transformed your life. The main challenge is that people often can’t believe these things exist, and they’ve never come across them before, which is why we do these awareness campaigns with real individuals who use them – what would you tell the past ‘you’ from two years ago, or others who are tuning in and thinking, “Really… is this for real?” Are these truly real?

They’re like magic! Honestly, they are. I’ve been spreading the word to all my friends and family – you simply pop them in, it’s a breeze before you hit the hay… once they’re in, you don’t even notice them ’cause you’re already in dreamland, so there’s no thought about having something in your eyes… and when you wake up, you take them out… and your vision is perfectly corrected… it’s astonishing… it’s like magic!

Q: To ask the obvious – you’d recommend night lenses?

Absolutely! Just like your title says – “I wish I had known about these years ago!” I’ve been wearing glasses since my twenties, and if I could have done this back then, I’d have spared myself all those little everyday annoyances from glasses or the hassle of dealing with irritated eyes from daily contacts… it’s truly mind-blowing!

Thanks a bunch, Catherine!
