Back to school | ditch the specs?

If your kid is super into sports but held back by their glasses, there might be another option that could work for them – night lenses! Imagine your child having clear vision all day long without needing glasses or contact lenses. This new innovation is really taking off, allowing them to enjoy sports without dealing with sporty eyewear, see their teammates and the ball perfectly, and not have to worry about mud, broken glasses, or even being able to see clearly underwater.

Wait a minute, are you saying they won’t need glasses or daytime lenses anymore?

Absolutely! Night lenses work through a process called Orthokeratology (sometimes called Ortho-K lenses by doctors).

In simple terms, you put in the lens before bed and sleep comfortably. While you sleep, the outer layer of cells on your eye naturally sheds and new cells grow. As you rest, the night lens gently shapes your eye by molding these cells – no harm done – giving you fantastic vision. Wake up, take out the lens, and you’re ready to roll. Enjoy clear and natural vision all day without the hassle of glasses or daytime lenses. Do this every night (because the outer cells shed daily), just like you have a routine for brushing your teeth or wearing daily lenses.

Yes, it’s safe. No, it’s not a permanent change (the effect fades within 48 hours as your eye goes back to its natural state). No, it’s not a new and untested idea – it’s been around for two decades, and recent improvements have made it even better. And if you haven’t heard of anyone using them, here, you can read about other young folks (ages 5-18) whose lives have been changed by night lenses, including my son Benjamin (the surfer) – I’m a real person writing this, not some automated marketing bot! ????

P.S. They’re also eco-friendly: only 2 small lenses per year compared to potentially multiple pairs of broken glasses or 730 daily lenses ending up in the sewer (not cool!) or a landfill.

Sounds good: show me some teenagers whose lives have been changed by them:

If you’ve got just a quick moment, hit that play button right below. Take a look at Jess trying out clear vision without any lenses for the first time as she takes them off. It’s really cool – and it’s strong evidence that yeah, these lenses definitely do the trick:

Seriously though, how do they work?

IMPORTANT PARENT NOTE: Night lenses can also help to control Myopia (nearsightedness)

I was really upset when we found out that my son had ‘Myopia’, and we had no idea. Our optometrist casually referred to it as ‘Short sight,’ and we didn’t pay much attention; we just got him glasses. Turns out, the proper term for short sight is Myopia, and it’s connected to future eye issues, but it can also be managed and kept under control. My son, who’s 16 now, has his condition under control. If we hadn’t switched him to night lenses, ditching the glasses and daytime lenses, he wouldn’t have been able to read the eye chart at 40, not even the top line! But now, he can read a couple of lines down. If we had started him on night lenses 5 years earlier, he would have stabilized at around -2.00D and had vision slightly above the legal driving requirement. My advice to other parents? Get started early.
