Night lenses changed my life | Paul Walker | Photographer

In this dialogue on nightlenses.com, we engage in a captivating conversation with Paul Walker, a skilled photographer hailing from Ayrshire. Paul opens up about his transformative journey with night lenses, shedding light on how these innovative lenses have revolutionized his life. He firmly believes that night lenses hold the potential to be a groundbreaking solution for fellow short-sighted photographers grappling with the limitations of glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Q: How long have you been using night lenses, and what prompted you to explore them? What were you using before?
A: I relied on eyeglasses for nearly three decades, but their convenience waned over time. While capturing events, my glasses would frequently fog up, and activities like golfing and swimming became cumbersome due to water splashes on the lenses. I experimented with daily contact lenses, but my dry eyes posed challenges, necessitating the use of eye drops, which was also bothersome. My experience with day lenses left much to be desired – my eyes often felt gritty and dried out quickly. Consequently, I reverted to my eyeglasses. During a discussion with my optician, she proposed night lenses as a suitable fit for my work and lifestyle. Initially skeptical about their functionality, I decided to give them a shot. The initial weeks brought about adjustments as my eyes acclimated. Given my involvement in the photography industry, concerns arose about clear vision through the viewfinder and the impact on my editing work. Despite the initial doubts, around 6-8 weeks in, I reached a point where I thought, “there’s no turning back now; this has been truly remarkable.” I’ve continued with them and have been thoroughly satisfied.

Q: How long have you been using night lenses?
A: I’ve embraced night lenses for a span of 3 years.

Q: As a photographer, how substantial of an impact have night lenses made?
A: The transformation lies in the liberation from reaching for a lens cloth to clean my glasses and the newfound freedom to navigate diverse environments without the constraints of eyeglasses. Even with lightweight glasses – which I wasn’t particularly fond of – I managed to endure them to some extent. However, the sheer liberty of having an unobstructed face is nothing short of incredible. As a photographer, this means bidding farewell to the inconvenience of a plastic rim hindering the camera’s view when brought to the face. It marks a significant enhancement. Moreover, transitioning from cold outdoor settings to warm indoor spaces, such as winter churches, used to lead to fogging of both the camera lens and my glasses – a dual fog challenge!

Q: How have night lenses influenced your personal life?
A: I’ve experienced profound contentment. Once again, it’s the liberation from eyeglasses. Activities requiring close-up work, like reading, remain unaffected, thanks to the adjustments made by my optician for my left and right eyes. I can effortlessly read relatively small print without any hassle. Night lenses have brought no notable downsides; they’ve seamlessly integrated into my nightly routine. Similar to day lenses, once they’re in, you hardly notice them – except now, you’re sleeping with them on!

Q: Could you envision reverting to glasses or daytime lenses after embracing night lenses?
A: Barring significant changes in my eyes or guidance from my optician, I don’t foresee a return. I consistently insert them each night, with occasional exceptions.

Q: What prompts you to recommend night lenses to others?
A: My advocacy for night lenses stems from the freedom they bestow, especially in outdoor settings and for individuals leading active lives. Additionally, the return to the clarity reminiscent of childhood is awe-inspiring – no more grappling with the challenges of locating and handling eyeglasses. The perpetual hunt of “where did I place them?” or frantic searches only to discover them beneath the couch or slightly squashed becomes a thing of the past. Moreover, impaired vision due to fogging is no longer a concern. In essence, the reasons to endorse night lenses are limitless!
